Electric Car Charging Point Grant Closing Mar 25: Act Now
Businesses are increasingly considering the benefits of adopting electric vehicles (EVs). Not only are they more sustainable but they also offer some tax advantages. The government introduced several grants to support the installation of electric car charging points, one of which is ending soon – at the end of March 25.
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) provides financial support to businesses, charities, and public sector organisations for the installation of EV chargepoints at their premises. The scheme covers up to 75% of the total costs of purchase and installation, capped at £350 per socket, with a maximum of 40 sockets across all sites per applicant.
You must act quickly for this grant, as the application window for the Workplace Charging Scheme closes on 31 March 2025, at 11:59 PM.
To be eligible your business must have sufficient off-street parking, which is used only by staff or fleet parking, and must be either on-site or within reasonable distance from the workplace. Additionally, you can use the grant to install a chargepoint at an employee’s home, where they cannot charge their vehicle at work.
If your application for the scheme is successful, you’ll receive a voucher that can be used with authorised OZEC installers for up to six months from the issue date.
The WCS grant can be used in conjunction with the EV Infrastructure grant for staff and fleets, but not for the same chargepoints. EV Infrastructure Grant
The grant could help your business to benefit from some of the tax savings on electric cars and their infrastructure.
Electric cars have the lowest benefit in kind rate for employees of all company cars, which also makes them ideal for use within a salary sacrifice scheme.
You can claim 100% relief on the cost of installing EV chargepoints through capital allowances first year allowance. This means you can deduct the cost of the installation from your business’s taxable profits in the year that the expenditure is incurred.
You can also claim VAT on the installation costs of EV chargepoints.
